Winning films will be screened on 30th November at the Malta Experience theatre

Malta continues to make waves in the film world as the Maltese production 'Cookie Box' by Adam Zurawiecki was named one of the top five films at this year’s Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival.

'Cookie Box' was selected as one of the five winners from the whopping 388 productions were submitted this year, which included an incredibly multicultural mix - 202 from Europe, 59 from North America, 14 from South America, 60 from Asia, 35 from the Middle East, 12 from Africa and six from Australia and New Zealand.

The film, inspired by true events, tells the poignant story of Palesa, a Ghanaian migrant worker who comes to Malta to work as a hospital cleaner and inadvertently uncovers a case of domestic abuse. Starring Ghanaian actress Joyce Everest alongside well-known Maltese actors Frida Cauchi, Joe Tanti, and Mikhail Basmadjian, the film was also selected for screening at the prestigious LA Shorts Festival earlier this year, a platform known for selecting films for Oscar and BAFTA consideration.

Another Maltese film, 'Nailed It!' by Luke Vella Clark, was recognised as one of the four ‘Highly Commended’ films from the submissions. This comedy follows Ray, the owner of a struggling ironmongery, whose life takes an unexpected turn when a childhood friend pays a visit, leading to hilarious consequences.

The Golden Knight International Film Festival, one of the longest-running festivals of its kind worldwide, showcases short films from a diverse range of creators, including non-professional productions, film school students, and commercial filmmakers.

The awards ceremony and screening of the winning films will take place on 30th November at 7 PM at the Malta Experience theatre in Valletta. For those interested in attending, further details can be found on the festival's official website.

Congratulations to all those involved!
