Maltese runners celebrated triumph at the Pisa Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday the 17th of December. Once again, Lisa Marie Bezzina, a dominant force, clinched victory in the women's half marathon for the fifth time, completing the race in an impressive time of one hour, 21 minutes, and 43.03 seconds.
As reported by Sportsdesk, the athlete, who is also a gold medalist at the 2023 Games of the Small States of Europe, expressed her joy, noting the race as the culmination of her season and achieving a new seasonal best.
In the men's race, Aaron Mifsud claimed fifth place overall, clocking one hour, 11 minutes, and 52.91 seconds, securing the top spot in the Overall 45 age group. Matthew Cutajar followed closely, finishing 17th overall and second in the Over 50 age group with a time of 1:16.38.92.
The full marathon saw Stefan Azzopardi's commendable tenth-place finish with a time of two hours, 34 minutes, and 49.79 seconds. Italian runners dominated the marathon, with Jbari Khalid claiming first place in 2:19.59.84.
Notably, Malta also showcased a presence in the women's marathon, with England's Jemima Farley, based in Malta, seizing victory in a time of two hours, 36 minutes, and 42.25 seconds. Maltese runner Josann Attard Pulis displayed resilience, securing 14th place overall with a time of 3:08:41.
