Team Malta outshone 15 European nations, securing a total of 14 medals!

Malta's athletes delivered a standout performance at the fifth edition of the Championships of the Small States of Europe in Gibraltar, clinching an impressive second place overall. With fierce determination and exceptional skill, Team Malta outshone 15 European nations, securing a total of 14 medals – five gold, six silver, and three bronze.

The highlight of Malta's campaign was Gina McNamara's exceptional run in the 1500m, where she set a Championship record of 4:45.43 to claim gold. Her versatility shone through as she also secured silver in the 5k and bronze in the 800m, contributing significantly to Malta's medal tally.

In a thrilling all-Maltese showdown, Charlotte Wingfield emerged victorious in the 200m, narrowly edging out Carla Scicluna for gold. Jared Micallef added to the glory with a gold medal in the 800m, showcasing Malta's strength in middle-distance events.

Malta's relay teams were unstoppable, with both the women's and men's teams clinching gold. Claire Azzopardi, Charlotte Wingfield, Carla Scicluna, and Janet Richard dominated the women's relay, while Graham Pellegrini, Omar El Aida Chaffey, Matthew Galea Soler, and Beppe Grillo sealed victory in the men's event.

The silver medals were earned by Luke Micallef (3000m steeplechase), Beppe Grillo (100m), Janet Richard (400m), and Rachela Pace (long jump). Carla Scicluna (100m) and Graham Pellegrini (400m) added to Malta's success with bronze medals.

With a total of 115 points, just seven points behind Cyprus, Team Malta's achievement marks their best-ever performance in the Championships of Small States of Europe, highlighting their growing skill on the international stage.
