Maltese karting talent Jacob Micallef kicked off his 2025 European season with a strong performance at the opening round of the Karting European Championship, held at the challenging Campillos circuit in Spain over the past weekend.

Racing against a fierce field of 90 talented drivers, Jacob showed his skills, finishing 12th in the final race and securing an impressive 16th place overall in the championship standings after the weekend.

The event began with an intense qualifying session, where Jacob set a solid foundation by securing 7th place in his group. The race weekend unfolded over five challenging heats, where he demonstrated steady improvement in each race. After that came the Super Heat, where Jacob started from 11th and battling his way up to a remarkable 8th place finish, earning him a starting position of 18th for the championship final.

In the final race, Jacob showed his true potential, posting several fastest lap times and making an impressive jump in his positioning. Jacob’s perseverance led him to a 12th-place finish in the final – a result he described as ‘decent’ in a post shared on Instagram, but one that is undoubtedly a great start to a season!

With the first round of the Karting European Championship behind him, Jacob expressed in the same Instagram post that he's already looking to the future. His next challenge will be the Champions of the Future second round in Portugal, which will be taking place between April 23rd and 26th.

Well done Jacob, and best of luck in Portugal!
