Originally from Malta, Maya and her family moved to Ireland in July 2020. A year later, in September 2021, Maya joined the Hynan School of Irish Dancing, and her passion for the art form has only grown since. Fast forward to 21st November in 2024, and Maya’s hard work paid off when she competed in the Munster Irish Dancing Competition in Killarney. This isn’t just any competition – it’s one of the most prestigious events in the province, with talented dancers from all over Munster dancing their hearts out for the top prize.

Maya not only participated, but went on to dazzle her way to a third-place finish! This achievement also earned her a spot in the All-Ireland Irish Dancing Championships, which will take place in Killarney next month.

And that’s not all! Maya’s talent also helped her team secure second place in the group category at Munster, qualifying them for the World Team Irish Dancing Competition. With her sights set on the global stage, Maya trains hard every day under the expert guidance of her coaches, Shereen and Jason Hynan. The duo, a husband-and-wife team, are legends in their own right, boasting world and all-Ireland titles.

Maya’s ultimate goal is to retain her spot and qualify for the World Irish Dancing Competition in Belfast in 2026 - with her determination, talent and support system, there’s no doubt that Maya is a rising star to watch in the world of Irish dancing.

Best of luck, Maya!
