Kamilla Boross has made history as the first woman to swim around Gozo, Malta's sister island, completing the grueling 37-kilometer (22.99-mile) journey.
Eight years after leaving Hungary for Malta, Kamilla embarked on this epic challenge, driven by her deep love for the sea and a desire to push her limits. Starting in the early hours at 4 a.m. from Hondoq Bay, she swam through the darkness, accompanied only by the glow of plankton and the steady rhythm of her strokes.
As she navigated the island's coastline, Kamilla passed iconic landmarks like Xatt l-Ahmar and Fungus Rock, each evoking memories of her time in Malta. These familiar sights provided comfort and motivation, reminding her of the experiences that shaped her journey as a swimmer.
Despite facing strong currents and challenging winds, particularly during the final leg, Kamilla drew strength from her past experiences, including a previous ultra swim in Greece.
With determination and perseverance, Kamilla completed the swim, celebrating not only her achievement but also her deep connection to Malta and Gozo.
For Kamilla, this swim was more than just a physical challenge—it was a celebration of her journey, a showcasing gesture to her resilience, and a tribute to the life she has built in Malta.
Well done, Kamilla!
