Tufty is not a new name to anyone who follows Wildlife Rescue Team Malta’s Facebook page. Today, Tufty comes bearing great news as it has been revealed that this cute little hedgehog is now all healed up and ready to return to her natural habitat.

After a journey of recovery and care, Tufty, a protected species has been reintroduced to the wild.

In a video posted on social media, one can see Tufty’s cautious exploration of the lush surroundings, followed by her spirited dash into the wilderness, reflects the successful rehabilitation efforts undertaken by the project's volunteers.

When Tufty first arrived, her survival hung in the balance, as she was found injured with all of her spines lost. However, thanks to the compassion and expertise of the project's volunteers, she now thrives in her native environment.

Slowly recovering and regaining all of her spines, Tufty was able to return to nature this weekend.

‘She took her time sniffing her new surroundings, and once she deemed the location was suitable, she went off exploring’, Wildlife Rescue Team Malta wrote in a Facebook post.

‘When she came to us, it was very touch & go on whether she would make it. Seeing her run off in such a beautiful setting was all the thank you our volunteers need.’

The Wildlife Rehab Project plays a pivotal role in rescuing and safeguarding Malta's precious wildlife.

Go Tufty go!
