The long-awaited October storms have finally arrived, and we couldn’t be happier.
Local weather stations had predicted that a thunderstorm system which had initially formed over the neighbouring island of Sicily would extend to the Maltese islands over the course of the day. Turns out they were right.
Throughout the past hour or so, countless Facebook pages and users took to the social media platform to report heavy rain in their localities.

‘Maltese Islands Weather’ shared an image showing heavy downpour in Gharb and San Lawrenz in Gozo. The fields pictured already seem to be flooding.
Countless readers took to the post’s comments section to report similar weather in their localities. Reportedly impacted areas include Gharghur, Qawra, St Julian’s, Birkirkara, Paola, Attard, Mellieha, and St Paul’s Bay.

‘Maltese Islands Weather’ also revealed that the heavy thunderstorm might bring along “very strong Northwesterly wind gusts and small hail”, although this would only last until mid-afternoon.
As expected, Malta’s infrastructure isn’t taking too kindly to this sudden downpour…
A photo shared by Maltese Roads Traffic Updates shows heavy flooding in Valley Road, Msida, as cars struggle to wade through the water.
Similar scenes were reported in Gozo by Aggornament tat-Temp and in other parts of Malta by a certain Tony Camilleri.
