WATCH: First mass of mauve stinger jellyfish spotted in Marsascala
Back already?!

Marine biologist, Alan Deidun, recently took to social media to share a video sent by Prof. Godfrey Baldacchino, showcasing the annual mass spawning of mauve stinger jellyfish in 2024.

The Pelagia noctiluca spawning event appears to be a result of the relatively warm and calm weather we’re experiencing in January so far.

According to Alan, the next generation of jellyfish will become visible in approximately three months, unless the water temperature drops below the normal range.

In recent days, these stingers have been observed in various locations, including Marsascala, the general south coast, and even Hondoq ir-Rummien in Gozo.

Have you spotted the first mass of jellyfish yet?
