WATCH: Feathered friends flock to Salina Nature Reserve in the north of Malta
Scenes of serenity at the local nature reserve

The nature reserve at Salina seems to be thriving, as BirdLife Malta shared a video showing various migratory birds peacefully enjoying the waters at the reserve as they rest in between journeys.

In the video, one can spot Spoonbills (‘Paletta’ in Maltese), Grey Herons (‘Russett Griz’), Little Egrets (‘Agrett Abjad’) and Yellow-Legged Gulls (‘Gawwija Prima’) – all of which are protected birds that can be spotted in most coastal areas, but tend to flock to the nature reserves around the island – namely Salina, Simar (Xemxija) and Ghadira (Mellieha).

Salina’s Nature Reserve has a small birdwatching hide accommodating three people at a time, where bird enthusiasts can observe such birds without disturbing them. The hide is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 11am to 5pm, and works with a booking system, with a 30-minute slot costing €1 for BirdLife Malta members and €2.50 for non-members.

Have you spotted any of these birds recently?
