WATCH: Check out this old footage of Sliema's Ghar id-Dud & the promenade back in 1951
Do you remember Ghar id-Dud like this?

Jillian Mallia

Sliema is one of the most popular places on the islands, attracting locals and tourists alike all year round. But obviously, being a seaside location, many people flock to its bays in the summer months to soak up some sun and swim in the glorious Med, as well as a good old walk along the promenade.

One of the well-known bays in Sliema is possibly Ghar id-Dud and this vintage footage shows just how beloved it was. Scenes of beach-goers pitching their umbrellas, walking along the beach and the kids running into the sea are featured in the video shared by Magna Zmien. We’d kill to be at the beach right now!

Other parts of the footage show people taking a Sunday morning stroll, obviously dressed in nothing less than their Sunday best! The footage forms part of the Henry Alamango Collection dating back to 1951.
