WATCH: American vlogger gives Malta credit for outstanding WWII service in his latest video
“Here’s to the brave country of Malta for being World War Two’s unsung hero.”

American vlogger Will Carmack posted a video yesterday giving credit to the Maltese Islands for their outstanding service during World War II and honestly, the proud patriotic feels are kicking in.

In his post, Will writes, “This country was bombed every day for two years, and I bet you've never even heard of it. This is Malta, arguably one of the most beautiful countries ever, but it has been through a lot, and has received no credit for it. So today I'm shining a light on the massive roll this country had during World War 2 that your history books won't tell you about.”

Will jumps back in time to Malta’s WWII past, revealing that our islands were bombed every day for two years straight. And believe it or not, if you Google “’world war II combatants’ there’s a list of 45 countries that were involved, and Malta isn’t even one of them.” Xinhu?!

“I am here today to give credit to Malta for the hefty price this country had to pay for a war they’re not even given credit for.” And while yes, we might not be listed as one of the combatants, even though we were one heck of a badass, King George VI gave us the George Cross to add to our flag as recognition for our service, as many people have pointed out in the comments section. People may not know about us, but the big dude gave us the highest reward. Moving on…

Malta was at the receiving end of over 3,000 German and Italian bombings throughout the war. In 1941, our islands were a key strategic point for the Royal Navy, helping to destroy German supply ships heading to Africa, starving the Nazis out one ship at a time. Basically, because of our bravery, the Nazis had to end their campaigns in Africa.

Will goes on to say that the “Axis Powers noticed how valuable Malta was and began the constant bombardment of the island.” They attempted to bomb or starve us into submission, but they didn’t take into account how strong the Maltese are. #WeAreMalteseWeTakeNoS***

“The spirit of the Maltese people could not be subdued, and it was time for Malta to flip the war,” he says. Our islands acted as a launchpad for the Allies to invade Italy, being only 50m away from Sicily, pushing Hitler and Mussolini from offense to defense. One could say that our tiny but mighty island enabled the turning point of the war.

“And I don’t know about you, but being bombed for two years straight, keeping the Nazis out of Africa and flipping the war qualifies Malta for a little more recognition. If there was ever a country that carried its weight and never backed down it’s Malta,” he concludes.
