Turtle mania! Nest 5 hatches at Gnejna Bay producing a total of 47 hatchlings
Malta welcomes its busiest turtle season yet!

Francesca Vella

Just as the activity at turtle nest 4 was ongoing, the turtle nest laid at Gnejna on the 18th of July began to hatch over the weekend and has now had its excavation complete, with a total of 75 eggs producing 47 successful hatches.

This means that from the entire nest there was a 63% hatch rate, with 28 eggs not being fertilised and 100% of the fertilised eggs hatching successfully.

All nature organisations involved express their gratitude to the over 300 volunteers between Malta and Gozo that help to monitor the nests day and night – not all superheroes wear capes indeed!

Are you hoping to spot the next hatching nest?
