Trouble at sea! All ferries to and from Valletta suspended today and Gozo Channel facing delays due to gale winds
Anyone suffering from sea sickness might want to avoid crossing islands in the next few days! The strong winds sweeping across the Maltese Islands have, as expected, brought significant disruptions to sea travel.
All ferry services to and from Valletta have been suspended today, including the Gozo Highspeed route between Valletta and Mgarr, the Valletta ferries connecting the capital with Sliema and the Three Cities, as well as Virtu Ferries' Malta-Sicily service.
The Gozo Channel, operating between Cirkewwa and Mgarr, remains functional but is experiencing delays due to a route adjustment. Ferries are being redirected via Comino to avoid the roughest seas.
Virtu Ferries has announced the cancellation of all scheduled voyages on Monday 23rd December, and Christmas Eve. To compensate, extra trips will run on Boxing Day, 26th December, departing Malta at 4:00 AM and Pozzallo at 7:30 AM, in addition to the regular schedule. A reminder to the public that the service does not operate on Christmas Day.
The Gozo Highspeed service has also suspended all trips for today and tomorrow, with updates being shared on their Facebook page.
The Valletta Ferry Services, similarly affected by the swell in the harbours when the sea is rough, have frequent updates being posted on their Facebook page.
Make sure to check for updates if you’re planning to travel!
