It was a busy day for the Gozo branch of Nature Trust, as their volunteers stepped in to save not one, but four hedgehogs in need!
The day started with a rescue in Ghajnsielem, where three tiny hoglets were spotted in a car park during daylight - never a good sign for nocturnal hedgehogs. With no mum around, the babies were hungry and crawling with fleas, making it likely they’d been on their own for a while. Thankfully, the team scooped them up and got them the care they needed, giving them adorable names in the process - Pip, Bubble, and Squeak. For now, these little ones are being looked after by volunteers until they’re old enough to be released back into the wild.
Not long after, the team received another call about a young hedgehog found at a cat feeding station in Victoria. This one, later named Pinocchio, was out during the day and underweight - two major red flags for the little critters. A vet confirmed he had internal parasites, but luckily, he’s now being treated and is in safe hands with the team.
Wishing the four little ones the speediest of recoveries!
