Malta has possibly the most gorgeous churches around Europe. With nearly one for every day of the year, the Maltese Islands have an array of cathedrals, churches and chapels to step into, each with the most impressive artwork.

1. St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta

Probably the most magnificent of them all is St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. The 16th century cathedral was built by the Knights and is adorned with the most impressive artworks ever. The main church area boasts wondrous religious paintings mostly by Mattia Preti. It also houses the only signed painting by Caravaggio, The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist.
