The safest and most eco-sustainable beaches to visit this summer! Here are all of Malta and Gozo’s Blue Flag beaches
A total of 12 beaches found in Malta have been awarded the blue flag.

The Blue Flag Malta organisation has just published its list of Blue Flag beaches for tourists and locals alike to enjoy this coming summer!

The Blue Flag badge is a a voluntary eco-label awarded to over 5000 beaches and marinas all across the world.

For beaches to be awarded such a badge, they have to prove that the beach is clean, safe, has a highwater quality, is accessible and is working towards eco-sustainability.

The Maltese first joined the Blue Flag programme back in 2006 and it has been operated by Nature Trust Malta ever since.

The full list is as follows:

Malta:

Med-Reef Club, Dragonara Peninsula

Fond Għadir

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay

Golden Bay

Mellieha Bay

Bugibba Perched Beach

Qawra Point

St George Bay

Paradise Bay

Gozo:

Marsalforn Bay

Hondoq Rummien

Ramla l-Hamra Bay

All the above beaches satisfy 100% of the requirements, otherwise they would not have obtained Blue Flag status.

Those that only satisfy 70% of the criteria are given ‘pilot’ status instead and awarded a ‘Beach of Quality’ Flag here in Malta. Marsascala's Fajtata beach is the first to obtain this badge.
