In a recent interview by Liam Carter for TVM, the award-winning director Ridley Scott was interviewed about his time spent filming in Malta.

He first arrived in Malta to film White Squall almost thirty years ago. He revealed that when he was going round Malta he came across Fort Ricasoli in Kalkara.

“It was huge”, he expressed. So, when the time came for him to decide where he wanted to film Gladiator he asked himself, “Where are we are going to do this?" and the only place he wanted to do this was Malta.

The renowned director went on to reveal how fantastic he found Malta’s Grand Harbour to be.

“The Maltese port is beautiful”, he divulged about filming both Napoleon and Gladiator there.

He would go round the Grand Harbour in the morning and admire all the churches and houses

Fort Ricasoli was of essence to him for both film as he could easily built the set with the “infrastructure that was already there”.

“I’ve done four films in Malta so I clearly love it”, he replied when asked how he finds working with the Maltese film crews and production.

He is also hoping that him filming in Malta will continue help bringing in more production companies to film in Malta.

Napoleon, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby came out in cinemas worldwide today.
