Readers rejoice! The National Book Council (NBC) has just revealed the highly anticipated program for the 2023 Malta Book Festival (MBF) during a press conference held at the National Library of Malta in Valletta.

The program promises an array of about 100 events spanning five days from the 18th to the 22nd of October. Hosted at the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre (MFCC) at Ta’ Qali, these events are free of charge and cater to diverse interests. They encompass family-friendly shows, engaging activities for students, book launches, thought-provoking discussions, enriching writing workshops, captivating performative readings, and networking opportunities for the public and stakeholders in the book industry.

This year's festival carries the theme #beyondbooks, emphasising the multifaceted nature of the medium, which can transcend the written word to encompass illustration, audio, theatre, and film adaptation.

The program reflects this theme with approximately 50 exhibitors and a lineup of high-profile local and international guests, solidifying the Malta Book Fair's reputation as the premier literary event in Malta.

The festival will also host bestselling author Sam Blake, known for works like "The Mystery of Four" and her YA debut, "Something Terrible Happened Last Night." Accompanying her is writer and children's books editor Charlie Castelletti, who also writes under the pseudonym C.A. Castle and has made significant contributions to the world of children's literature.

Literary agent and publishing consultant Simon Trewin, as well as Praspar Press editors Jen Calleja and Kat Storace, will share their expertise while local author Clare Azzopardi will also join the international invitees, participating in an event related to her novel "Castillo" and its upcoming film adaptation.

The 2023 Malta Book Festival promises to be a dynamic celebration of literature that extends beyond the pages, showcasing Malta's literary talent, nurturing international collaborations, and enriching the reading culture on the island.
