The Count of Monte Cristo returns! New series adaptation of French novel partly filming in Malta
The series stars the renowned British actor, Sam Claflin.
As reported by Variety, a new series adaptation based on French novel, The Count of Monte Cristo is currently filming in Italy, France and Malta!
This marks the second time an adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas novel was filmed here in Malta, after the original 2002 film was largely shot in Valletta.
This time round, the adaptation will be directed by the two-time Palme d’Or and Oscar winner, Bille August and is currently filming on location in France, Italy and Malta.
It will star Peaky Blinders and Hunger Games actor, Sam Claflin in the leading role of Edmond Dantes, a 19-year-old sailor who was falsely accused of treason and is imprisoned on a horrifying island fortress off Marseille. After many years, he finally escapes and assumes the identity of the Count of Monte Cristo as he plans to take revenge on all those who wronged him.
Other confirmed cast members include Ana Girardot, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, Blake Ritson, Karla-Simone Spence, Michele Riondino, Lino Guanciale, Gabriella Pession and Nicolas Maupas.
