Earlier this week, the Malta Ranger Unit rescued an unwell Scops Owl and handed it over to a government veterinarian for urgent care.

The owl was discovered by a concerned member of the public, who quickly reported the situation. The rangers responded immediately, ensuring the bird received the attention it needed.

Following an examination, an x-ray confirmed that the owl had no shotgun injuries. It will now undergo rehabilitation with BirdLife Malta, where it will receive the necessary treatment to recover.

‘We’d like to thank the individual who found the owl and the various NGOs that supported us in this case,’ the Malta Ranger Unit shared.

The Unit also highlighted their dedication to protecting local wildlife and assisting the community.

‘Our Rangers are out patrolling the Maltese countryside 24/7 and are always available on WhatsApp at 7937 8118. Our greatest strength as an NGO is that we are likely to be at the right place at the right time. It enables us to assist the public and many NGOs in their daily operations.’

Well done to all those involved and stay strong little owl!
