This weather instability will be persisting, possibly until the third week of June.
While we’ve been experiencing some warmer temperatures, it’s looking like tomorrow will be cloudy again with chances of isolated showers, according to the weather page Maltese Islands Weather. This weather instability is not going away any time soon!
The page predicts that Malta will be in this limbo that lies between fine weather and inconsistent temperatures, possibly until the third week of June. In fact, there are no heat spells or consistent spells of fine weather expected before that time.
This is due to the fact that the Azores High, which typically brings stable and warm conditions during summer, is behaving abnormally this year, extending farther north towards the Iberian Peninsula, British Isles, and even reaching the Nordic and Baltic states. Consequently, the blocking anticyclones that are synonymous with summer are absent over North Africa and the Mediterranean, leaving our region exposed to instability.
The impact of this unusual weather pattern can be felt locally in Malta, as well as in neighbouring countries and across North Africa. Temperatures have been cooler than normal, and there have been more frequent outbreaks of precipitation and strong winds. Fortunately, the Maltese Islands have been spared the worst of the storms, with neighbouring islands bearing the brunt of these weather disturbances.
In contrast, countries under the influence of the current Azores High behaviour are experiencing brighter sunshine, warmer temperatures, and drier conditions than usual for this time of year.
‘We're expecting further outbreaks of strong winds, cloudy days and possible showers from time to time as we head into meteorological summer tomorrow. Rain may deposit fine desert sand on some days’, claim Maltese Islands Weather.
