5. Birgu

Over in the Three Cities, with their wealth of fascinating history, is this precious staircase on Triq Pacifiku Scicluna in Birgu. Nestled between ancient walls and houses, this easy-to-miss staircase is ready for its close-up.

6. City Gate

The most modern structure from the lot is the entrance to Valletta, also known as City Gate. The two sets of stairs that flank the entrance are particularly beautiful at sundown, when soft sunlight floods the stunning marble.

7. The Garigor

You’ll come across this style of staircase in many old buildings, including museums and private homes. Known as garigor, the spiral staircase was a common design for a secondary set of stairs at the back of the house, and makes for quite an interesting snap.

8. Isla

Isla, another of the Three Cities, is the smallest locality in Malta, but it’s full of architectural wonders that are begging to be discovered, just like this staircase. With views of a parish church and nearby marina, you just might be able to find its exact location – and *click*.
