It’s all happening on Sunday 18th June.
To commemorate the European Archaeology Days, Heritage Malta is organising an exceptional guided tour at Borġ in-Nadur on Sunday 18th June.
This event will offer visitors the opportunity to explore the Neolithic remains and witness the earliest defensive wall on the Maltese Islands, which dates back to the Bronze Age.
The highlight of the tour will be the interactive demonstration by an experimental archaeologist. Witnessing the production of stone tools using obsidian will provide a unique understanding of the ingenuity and craftsmanship of our ancient ancestors.
This engaging display will offer visitors a hands-on experience, showcasing the techniques and skills required to create functional tools during a time when metal had yet to be discovered.
During the Neolithic era, metal was not yet available, so ancient civilizations relied solely on stone for tool production.
The tour will showcase various types of stones utilised during that time, including locally available coralline and chert, as well as obsidian and flint that were imported from neighbouring islands such as Sicily, Lipari, and Pantelleria. These stones were transformed into essential tools that played a crucial role in the daily lives of our ancestors.
To accommodate different language preferences, there will be two tours available. A tour in Maltese will commence at 10:00 am, followed by an English tour at 11:00 am. Tickets for the guided tours are priced at €8 for adults, while Heritage Malta members and children up to 11 years old can enjoy the tour free of charge.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at any of the Heritage Malta museums and sites, or conveniently online. Pre-booking is required to secure your spot for this fascinating event.
Don't miss out on this enriching experience that bridges the gap between the past and the present.
