The Maltese footballer Maria Farrugia, who has played with the Sheffield United Women’s since August this year, has just been named Barclays Women's Championship Player of the Month for October, and won Goal of the Month for good measure!
Her award-winning goal was scored in a match against Bristol City, and she scored three other goals across all the matches in October, including two crucial goals against the Blackburn Rovers.
Maria’s football career is clearly skyrocketing, as this is her second time this year being awarded with the Barclays title Player of the Month, having been bestowed the honour earlier this year in March, when she was still playing with Lewes FC Women.
In an Instagram story, Maria dedicated these awards to her late grandmother, and expressed gratitude to the team’s staff, as well as her family and teammates, saying ‘this achievement would not have been possible without their support’.
Well done Maria!
