Videos of the collision caused some concern this morning

Videos of a collision between one of Gozo Highspeed’s ferries and a small boat at Mgarr Harbour have been circulating this morning, with viewers speculating about what could have happened.

The footage shows the ferry drifting towards some smaller boats anchored at the harbour, and eventually colliding with one of them. The crew onboard are seen to be taking quick action to prevent the boat from hitting land.

The news portal Times of Malta has confirmed, through communication with a Gozo Highspeed official, that the collision occurred due to a ‘minor technical issue’ that was resolved by the crew, and that there were no injuries or damage caused by the incident. They have also assured that the collision hasn’t affected today’s Valletta-Gozo ferry schedule.

Have you travelled using the ferry between Valletta and Gozo recently?
