Matthew Flores and Lara Merten, both apprentices at the Royal Malta Yacht Club (RMYC) Sailing School, are representing Malta at the ILCA Sailing World Championships for Under-21, taking place in Viana do Castelo, Portugal between July 1st and 8th.

Matthew Flores is fast becoming a seasoned sailor, already having won the coveted ILCA 6 Sailor of the Year Award in December last year. He also participated in the ILCA Under-21 European Championships, which took place in March this year in Pollença, Spain.

Lara Merten has also had her fair share of experience on the sea, having participated in the highly competitive ICLA 4 fleet as part of the Europa Cup in 2022 in Mallorca Spain.

The two sailors are accompanied by Coach Alex Denisiuc at the Championships ongoing this week, an event which hosts 235 sailors spanning nationalities from 41 countries.

Wishing the young sailors the best of luck!
