Scorching heat alert! Heatwave warning issued for Malta as temperatures expected to rise over 40°C
Malta’s first heatwave is arriving this weekend and will last through the remaining week!
Maltese Islands Weather has issued a heatwave warning as temperatures will be 38°C or higher from Saturday 15th July to Saturday 22nd July.
Temperatures might even rise to 40°C or over in the upcoming days so make sure to prepare yourself!
Even nighttime temperatures are set to skyrocket to be above 27°C. Those air conditioners will definitely be working overtime if anyone hopes to get some sleep.
This heatwave “will be caused by an extension of the Sahara Desert high pressure system over the central Mediterranean”, Maltese Islands weather explained.
“This will drag very hot air from over north Africa. The air will be largely dry. The heat can lead to some dangerous heat disorders with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity in the heat”, they continued.
Such a heatwave will even cause sea temperatures to rise. Thus, a dip in one of Malta’s beaches might not even be as comforting as you might think.
The UV Index is set to rise to 11 or even higher so make sure to stay away from direct sunlight, especially between 11am to 4pm and apply as much sunscreen as possible.
The heatwave might also increase the chance of wildfires. As Malta experienced abundant rainfall last winter, this caused the grass to grow very tall yet at the moment it is all dried up and the heatwave will only increase the chances of it catching on fire.
Make sure to practice every precaution necessary to avoid any unnecessary accidents.
