Rising stars! Young Maltese athletes break national records at London Indoor Games 2025
Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 London Indoor Games, held at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre.
Competing in the U13, U15, and U17 categories, the club’s young athletes set an impressive nine new national records, showcasing their talent and dedication on an international stage.
Jacques Borg achieved a remarkable milestone in the U17 category by breaking the National Indoor Record for under 16s in the 60m sprint with a time of 7.27 seconds.
Similarly, Jack Borg Pullicino set a new National Indoor Record for under 16s in the 400m, clocking in at 54.46 seconds.
Karina Mia Peresso secured a third-place finish in her series and established a new National Indoor Record for girls under 14 in the 800m with a time of 2:32.38.
Jack Herrera Role made waves in the 800m for boys under 14, setting a new National Record with a time of 2:32.94.
Meanwhile, Sophie Cassar Torregiani displayed her strength in the 800m for girls under 16, finishing third in her series and achieving a new National Record with a time of 2:31.17.
Carl Grech improved his own National Indoor Record in High Jump for boys under 16, clearing 1.60m, 5cm higher than his previous record set a year ago, securing first place in Group 2.
Guest athlete Jamie Borg delivered an exceptional performance, breaking the National Indoor Record for boys under 14 in the 60m twice in one day, first with 8.05 seconds and then improving to 8.04 seconds. He capped off his week with another record in the 200m, finishing in 27.18 seconds.
Carla Filletti had a splendid Shot Put competition with a best throw of 8.44m which could also classify as a New Indoor U14 National Record.
Led by Ms. Angie Spiteri, along with coaches Luca Falzon, Maria Ghigo, and Ian Paul Grech, the 42 Pembroke Athleta athletes were supported by a devoted group of parents and relatives.
