Ride to Uni! New Park & Ride service launches between Ta’ Qali and University of Malta this September
The route will connect Ta’ Qali to Rabat, Mosta, Naxxar, Mater Dei, and the University of Malta.
As the end of September approaches, so does the return of heavy traffic as schools and the University of Malta reopen for a new scholastic year. But this year, drivers might breathe a little easier – a series of measures have been announced to help reduce the congestion that typically clogs up the roads.
One of the biggest changes is the launch of a brand-new Park & Ride service from Ta’ Qali starting 28th September. The route will connect Ta’ Qali to Rabat, Mosta, Naxxar, Mater Dei, and the University of Malta, offering students and commuters an easier, more sustainable way to travel.
This service forms part of the wider ‘Reshaping Our Mobility’ plan and follows the effort of the Paola Park & Ride, which began operating earlier this year from the Addolorata Cemetery car park. Both aim to cut down on traffic and pollution in village centres while also easing the pressure on parking in busy urban areas.
Other measures to manage traffic this month include a traffic management plan for the school reopening period, gradually rolled out between 15th and 19th September, as well as a ban on roadwork permits near schools or in busy areas between 6:00am–9:30am on weekdays.
Drivers will also have additional support, with over 80 enforcement officers deployed across 33 localities in Malta and Gozo, focusing on peak hours (6:30am–9:30am and 3:30pm–6:30pm). There will also be an extension of the free Tow Truck service to assist with breakdowns and minor accidents.
While these changes will hopefully make the back-to-school daily commute smoother for everyone, you might want to prepare a good playlist to brighten your journey – just in case!
