Revised Comino plans! A proposed transformation that aims to reduce built footprint
Here’s what Comino could look like in the near future.
HV Hospitality, the owner of the hotel and bungalow sites on Comino, has recently submitted revised plans for the redevelopment project to the Planning Authority. The updated plans showcase a significant reduction in the built footprint to the proposed bungalow site.
The proposed transformation of the Comino hotel at San Niklaw Bay and the bungalows at Santa Marija Bay aims to create a sustainable five-star wellness retreat managed by the renowned Six Senses brand.

The original plans already included a 7,154 sqm reduction in the hotel site at San Niklaw Bay, but the new revisions go further by reducing the footprint at the bungalow site as well. This brings the total reduced footprint to 8,244 sqm, equivalent to approximately 32 tennis courts.
To address concerns raised by stakeholders, the revised plans also emphasise increased public accessibility. The buildings at the bungalow site will be set back from the foreshore, allowing for a more open and inclusive space. Additionally, the height of the buildings will be lowered. Importantly, HV Hospitality has made it clear that they will not seek compensation for these adjustments through additional land on the site.

The spokesperson for HV Hospitality acknowledged the importance of finding a balanced solution for this unique site.
In line with their commitment to preserving Comino as a Natura 2000 site, HV Hospitality has incorporated various environmental initiatives into the redevelopment project. This includes the removal of invasive and alien species, as well as the planting of over 55,000 endemic trees, shrubs, and plants.
Moreover, the company is aiming for the highest LEED certification for the project, a distinction held by only a select few hotels worldwide.
