Real-feel temperatures set to plunge! Malta braces for blood rain and a cooler end to the week
A real-feel temperature of 9°C is expected this Saturday!

This week’s weather outlook for the Maltese Islands, as shared by Maltese Islands Weather, brings a varied mix of conditions - cloudy skies, some sunshine, and even a touch of blood rain but it’s the noticeable drop in temperatures toward the end of the week that truly stands out.

The week begins on Monday, 17th November, with mostly cloudy skies and relatively warm conditions for this time of year. Highs of 26°C and lows of 20°C reflect the lingering autumn warmth, accompanied by SSW to SSE winds and a moderate to rough sea state.

Adding to the week’s weather-related developments, motorists may have noticed that roads this morning appeared as though light rain had fallen overnight. This was actually the result of heavy dewfall, with some localities recording up to 0.4 mm of precipitation from dew alone. When this moisture mixes with dust settled on the roads, it creates a slushy, paste-like layer that can significantly reduce tyre grip, leading to unusually slippery driving conditions. With relative humidity reaching around 90% today, the atmosphere is primed for continued heavy dew formation, so drivers are urged to remain cautious during early morning commutes.

Tuesday brings similar cloud cover, though temperatures start a gradual descent, peaking at 24°C and dropping to 16°C overnight.

A more significant shift arrives mid-week. Wednesday’s forecast of ‘blood rain’, caused by reddish desert dust mixing with rain, coincides with another dip in temperatures, reaching just 20°C by day and 14°C by night. With a 55% rain risk, it will be the dampest and one of the cooler days so far.

Although sunshine returns on Thursday, temperatures hold steady rather than rising, with highs of 20°C and lows of 17°C.

By Friday and Saturday, partly cloudy skies prevail, but it’s the cool air settling over the islands that becomes the main story. Daytime highs hover around 20°C, yet by Saturday night the real-feel temperature is expected to plunge to around 9°C - ushering in the chilliest spell of the week and signalling that winter is edging closer.

Are you looking forward to a cooler end of the week?
