Rainy days ahead! Thunderstorms hit Malta last night, with more expected in the coming days
The rain is expected to continue tonight

A wave of thunderstorms swept over Malta yesterday evening, bringing heavy, yet isolated, showers to several areas across the islands. Despite the sunshine this morning, all local weather portals agree that this isn't the end, with more storms on the horizon.

According to Malta Weather, a Mediterranean cyclone is developing near the Maltese Islands over the next few days, fuelled by the contrast between cold air and a very warm sea. This system is rapidly moving towards Libya. Depending on its exact formation and movement, it could generate unexpected sea swells on the eastern coast, along with the potential for thunderstorms, heavy showers, hail, and strong winds. While a weather warning isn't necessary at this stage, it’s advised to stay alert.

More rain is expected this evening, continuing into tomorrow, with thunderstorms highly likely, so you might want to plan ahead to avoid the morning traffic that tends to build up in bad weather!

Did you experience sudden and heavy showers in your locality last night?
