Public holiday plans sorted! Check out the latest event happening at Fort St Angelo honouring Victory Day in Malta
This event, organised by Heritage Malta, is happening on the 8th of September starting from 10am.
Malta is set to honour its triumphant past with a grand celebration on Victory Day, as Heritage Malta unveils the majestic Fort St Angelo to the public at a special reduced admission fee.
The historic event, held to mark the victory in two significant historical moments, promises a day filled with engaging activities and commemorations.
Kicking off the day's proceedings is a reverent mass at 10:00 am in the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin, followed by a poignant commemoration at the Victory of the Great Siege monument.
The event will witness the participation of groups like the 1st Cospicua Scout Group, Sea Cadets Malta, and the National Festivities Committee.
The occasion holds even greater significance as it commemorates the 80th anniversary of Malta's triumph over adversity, particularly the surrender of the Italian navy that marked the end of the harrowing war for Malta in 1943.
Heritage Malta will seize this momentous opportunity to launch two new publications, offering attendees a chance to meet the authors and enjoy a special ‘3 for 2’ offer on the books.
The afternoon will be filled with captivating re-enactment groups, depicting historical eras from the late 16th century to World War II. From the mesmerising displays of Show of Arms and Malta Historical Fencing Association to the immersive showcases by the Historical Re-enactment Group of Malta, Malta Command WW2 Living History Group, and Battlefields Living History Reenactment Troops Malta, the day will be a living tapestry of history.
With the Fort open from 10:00 to 18:00, visitors can relish stunning views of the year's Regatta contest while enjoying refreshments from the onsite bar.
Reduced admission tickets will be available on the day, and children up to 11 years of age, along with Heritage Malta members, will enjoy free entry. This event promises an extraordinary blend of historical appreciation and jubilant celebration.
