Poor babies! Malta and Gozo currently experiencing a peak in newborn hoglets that need rescuing
Hopefully, they'll eventually be released back in the wild!

Wildlife Rescue Team Malta took to their social media to share how they’re currently facing a peak of little baby hoglets that have needed rescuing.

Some of them are just newborns while others are hoglets that don’t even weigh 200g. Certain hoglets that are being picked up still even have their eyes closed.

Although the volunteers with Wildlife Rescue Team do everything to find their mother sometimes, they simply cannot find the mother hedgehog and have to take in the hoglets themselves. It is also sometimes the case that the mother has been run over and her babies end up all alone.

They appealed to the public to call them when they come across any hoglets as they have to be bottle fed with a special kind of milk. Our milk is not fit for them and can even prove lethal as they are highly lactose intolerant.

“It's always a delicate situation as being so small, anything can go wrong”, they explained.

When spotting any injured wildlife, you can call the Wildlife Rescue Team on 99999505.
