Planning a Gozo staycation? Here are FIVE things to do to spice up your weekender
It’s time to liven up your Gozo holiday.

With the start of summer, it’s high time you treated yourself to a well-deserved holiday with loved ones and friends – and what better spot to chill out at than the sister island of Gozo?

Now, admittedly, spending summer after summer in Gozo can get a bit repetitive if you keep frequenting the same spots, but with a little bit of research, your staycation is bound to be taken up a notch (or two).

To help you out with just that, we’re listing five things you can do to spice up your Gozo weekender this summer in Malta. Here we go!

Visit the lesser-known beaches

Gozo’s home to some of the most beautiful beaches that the Maltese islands have to offer, although most of these are often chock-full with bathers during the summer months.

Go off the beaten track and take a dip in some of Gozo’s lesser-known yet golden swimming spots. These include Dwejra (behind the fungus rock), Hondoq (near the Barbaggan rocks), Horizon (sandwiched between Xwejni and Qbajjar in Marsalforn), Il-Kantra (right behind Mgarr ix-Xini).

Bonus tip: If you want to be super adventurous, rent a jeep and go off-road. You would be amazed at how many isolated beaches you’ll find!

Take a boat trip

Speaking of hidden beaches, you can never go wrong with a boat trip. Cruise peacefully around the island whilst checking out some stunning swimming spots that are completely inaccessible on foot.

Whether you’re driving your own boat or booking a private trip, this is a tried-and-tested way to get away from the crowds during the summer months.

Bonus tip: Since you’re already super close, you might as well cruise around Comino and visit some of the inaccessible swimming spots there too.

Rent a kayak

If you’re the adventurous type, Gozo is the perfect spot for a day of kayaking. A lot of the main beaches offer kayaks for rental, making it the perfect option for a trip along the coast. That being said, be extremely careful of underwater currents that might not be visible.

Bonus tip: A kayak ride can also double up as an upper-body workout. Who needs the gym anyway?

Visit restaurants outside of tourist hotspots

When it comes to dining out in Gozo, most people tend to gravitate towards Xlendi or Marsalforn, but there’s a plethora of other incredible restaurants waiting to be discovered around the island that are very much worth the hype.

Strolling around village squares is sure to introduce you to some great eateries with iconic views of the village church.

Bonus Tip: Steer clear of the square during a village’s festa if you’re looking for a peaceful night out.

Check out Gozo’s museums and theatres

Gozo is way more than just farmhouses and beaches. This tiny island is also home to some incredibly interesting museums, theatres, and exhibitions.

If you time your trip right, you might also manage to check out a musical or play going down at one of Gozo’s theatres.

Bonus Tip: Most entrances to museums, exhibitions, and productions are free so it would be a shame to miss out.
