Once in a Super Blue Moon! Rare astronomical phenomenon can be seen from Malta tomorrow
The moon will not actually turn blue…

Emma Galea

This coming, Wednesday 30th August, if you look up in the sky you’ll be able to witness something quite rare as Malta and the rest of the world will experience the super blue moon.

The super blue moon is a rare phenomenon where two full moons occur within the same month. Such an event happened over two years ago.

This is why when people are conversing, and they want to refer to something rare they say that is only happens “once in a blue moon”.

Many typically think that the full cycle of the moon lasts one month so we can only get one full moon per month but that’s not quite true as the moon cycle actually takes 29.5 days.

This means that it takes 354 days to complete 12 lunar cycles so every 2 and a half years, we get 13 moons throughout the year with two of them occurring within the same month.

Tomorrow’s blue moon will also be a super moon, meaning it will be super close to earth, making it larger in size.
