Nature’s wonders! Rambler Pierre Farrugia discovers a small beach in a cave at Ghar Lapsi
This week’s expedition sees the local explorer taking a kayak’s perspective of the south-west coast

Ghar Lapsi is a beautiful bay in the outskirts of Siggiewi, sheltered by the surrounding cliffs and a favourite with swimmers, snorkellers and hikers alike. However, local rambler Pierre Farrugia decided to explore the area from a different perspective – via kayak.

His view from the sea provides a panorama that’s hard to get from anywhere on land, due to the high cliffs that meet the sea, and he points out the overhanging ridges that are particularly dangerous to tread on and swim underneath, as they will eventually break off into the sea.

While searching for a particular cave he’d come across in a previous expedition, Pierre Farrugia shows the crystal blue seas surrounding the area, presenting perfect kayaking conditions, enticing enough to make anyone want to give it a try!

The caves he encounters in his journey are a source of mystery and excitement to the viewer and Pierre himself, while offering some respite from the hot sun outside. He finally finds the cave he’d been seeking, entering into its depths for a good two minutes on the kayak before encountering a tiny beach where he rests and goes for a quick dip.

The explorer always advises his followers to ensure they let someone know where they’re going when out in nature, to make it easier to seek help in the event that they get lost or injured.

Well done on your discovery Pierre!
