More guests and longer stays! Malta’s hotels wrap up 2024 on a high
4-star hotels steal the show

Malta’s hotels had a busy end to 2024, with more guests checking in and staying longer compared to the same period in 2023. From October to December, collective accommodation establishments welcomed a total of 626,884 guests - a solid 14.5% increase over the previous year. And it wasn’t just a quick stopover! Visitors racked up 2.67 million guest nights, marking a 16.5% rise from 2023.

The big winners were 4-star hotels, which hosted more than half (50.4%) of all guest nights. This category continues to be the go-to choice for many travellers looking for a mix of comfort and affordability.

Another notable shift was the average length of stay, which edged up to 4.3 nights per guest. This means tourists aren’t just coming in for a weekend getaway - they’re making the most of their trip.

Meanwhile, hotels saw an improvement in occupancy, with bed-place usage climbing to 59%, up by 3.9 percentage points from the same quarter in 2023.

All in all, the last few months of 2024 painted a positive picture for Malta’s hospitality scene, setting a strong foundation for the new year.

Will the trend continue in 2025? Time will tell!
