Let’s hear it for these speedy women! Thea Parnis Coleiro, Janet Richard, Carla Scicluna, and Charlotte Wingfield set a new national record for the Maltese women's 4x100 relay team at the Marsa Athletics Stadium, improving upon last year’s Team Malta's performance at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. This incredible result came five weeks before the GSSE 2023.

During a race staged in conjunction with the Fourth Athletics Malta Challenge Meeting of the season, the women's relay team faced off against San Marino.

Ironically, Claire Azzopardi was the only team member absent from the successful mission in Birmingham because she was focused on breaking her own record in the triple jump. Azzopardi outperformed Rebecca Sare (12.83m) with a magnificent jump of 13.04 meters.

Both the men's and women's 200-meter sprints turned out to be incredibly thrilling events. Graham Pellegrini and Beppe Grillo both registered times of 21.17 in the men's race at the Marsa Track, with the former earning first place by just three thousandths of a second (21.172 vs. 21.175s). Pellegrini accomplished this feat by setting new Under 23 and Under 20 records for the country. Grillo also did well in the 100 meters, finishing in 10.59 seconds with the aid of the breeze.

Janet Richard and Carla Scicluna were neck and neck in the women's race, with Richard posting a faster time of 23.91 seconds to Scicluna's 23.98 seconds.

Athlete Kay Testa, who is under 18, won the 400-meter race in 57.98 seconds, beating Josepha Marie Micallef, who finished in 59.60 seconds.

Mireya Bugeja, a young athlete, proved that her past accomplishments this season weren't isolated incidents by winning another race in the 1500-meter distance in 4:43.97.

Three of Malta's top runners competed in an electrifying 5000-meter men's race in Marsa, which was the longest distance of the afternoon. The winner, Simon Spiteri, beat out competitors Dillon Cassar and Luke Micallef to win in 14'34—the fastest time ever set for the distance by an athlete from Malta. Moreover, five seconds later, Dillon Cassar finished in second place.

Youngster Gabriel Farrugia finished the race in 15 minutes and nine seconds, shaving additional time off his own national Under 20 record.

At the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Gina Mcnamara, one of the Maltese athletes racing overseas, broke Paula Grech's 4:26.12 record for the 1500 meters, which had stood since June 2019.

With a 7.44m jump, Jeremy Zammit won the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, representing both himself and his nation with pride.

Well done to all the athletes involved!
