The local team participating in the FIBA Women’s European Championship for Small Countries 2024 was victorious in yesterday’s match against the Championship hosts Kosovo, with a score of 72-65.

Amber Melgoza was marked as top scorer of yesterday’s game with 21 points, helping to bring the Malta team to victory despite having lost the third quarter of the game.

This year’s local team is led by coach Charles Bonnici, appointed as the new women’s national team coach earlier this year.

Malta has hosted these biannual Championships back in 2006 and 1996, and the Maltese team has taken home the gold medal three times since the competition was first introduced in 1989.

Malta will face Georgia in the team’s second game today at 3.30pm - follow the excitement and scores on the FIBA site.
