Local horse sanctuary in dire straits as five new additions push it towards max capacity
It has always been an uphill battle, but COVID-19 is causing even further strain

A local horse sanctuary is nearing full capacity after it welcomed five new additions in so many days.

In a series of heartfelt Facebook posts, RMJ's Horse Rescue revealed the severity of the situation: "The Covid-19 situation is having a horrible effect on horses. 5 new additions especially in poor condition are going to cost us minimum another 1000 Euro per month excluding all the vet and farrier work they need," one post read.

The sanctuary continued to illustrate its dire situation in a separate post: "It has always been an uphill battle with rescuring horses and the current situation has made it 10 times worse," it said.

Albeit stories of rescues have generated a storm among animal lovers, the sanctuary appeals for level-headeness: "We know that some of the cases we are introducing to you will make you angry and sad but please at this point let us all think about how we can in some way get through this," it said, adding that it was rushing to fix up as many stables as possible to accomodate their ever-expanding brood.

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
