Malta is gearing up for the prestigious Heraklion Mediterranean Beach Games, set to kick off on September 9th, 2023, in the picturesque city of Heraklion, Crete, Greece.

The Maltese Olympic Committee has proudly announced its representation at the Games, with sprint rower Mark Schembri taking the helm in the Rowing Beach Sprint event. Supported by Coach Prof Joseph Grima and physiotherapist Milos Stanisavljevic, the Maltese team will be led by Chef de Mission and MOC Executive Board member, Dr Lucienne Attard.

The Rowing Beach Sprint competitions will unfold at the stunning beachfront of the Karteros Beach Sports Centre, the central venue of the Games. Mark Schembri will commence his pursuit of glory on September 10th, engaging in daily action until the 12th.

The Heraklion Mediterranean Beach Games serve as a platform for fostering unity, cooperation, and friendly competition among nations bordering the Mediterranean Sea. With a storied history dating back to 1951, these Games symbolise the strength of bonds shared by Mediterranean countries.

This won't be Malta's first appearance at the Heraklion Mediterranean Beach Games, having previously competed in Patras, Greece (2019) and Pescara, Italy (2015).

Additionally, Mark Schembri will proudly bear the Maltese flag at the Opening Ceremony, a momentous event set to unfold on September 9th at the Karteros Beach Sports Centre.

Good luck, Mark!
