Last push! Coast is Clear removes 223kg of waste from Malta’s coast in final cleanup for 2024
Volunteers making Malta's seas a better place to be!

The lesser-known area of Sikka Safra, meaning ‘Yellow Reef,’ near Bahar ic-Caghaq, received a much-needed makeover over the weekend, with an impressive 223kg of waste removed from the site. The debris included fishing lines, microplastics, bottles, ropes, and plastic sheets, all of which pose a threat to the local ecosystem.

The dedicated volunteer group Coast is Clear partnered with KSU – Kaccaturi San Ubertu, to carefully comb through the area and remove the harmful waste. Most of the collected materials were plastic debris, which endangers marine life and the delicate environment.

This cleanup marked the group’s final event of the year, bringing their total to an impressive 65 cleanups for 2024. The volunteers expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support from people around the world who joined in their efforts to protect Malta's coastline.

Kudos to everyone who contributed!
