King Charles fondly remembers childhood in Malta during meeting with Malta’s High Commissioner
During a formal ceremony at Buckingham Palace, King Charles III fondly reminisced about his childhood in Malta while receiving the credentials of Malta’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Prof. Stephen Montefort.

Prof. Montefort, accompanied by his wife Anna Montefort and staff members Ryden Spiteri and Nerissa Sultana, had the honour of presenting his credentials to the King, marking a new chapter in Malta-UK diplomatic relations.
In a warm exchange, King Charles reflected on his cherished childhood memories on the island, where he spent time while his father, Prince Philip, was stationed in Malta during his naval career. The King and the High Commissioner also discussed the excellent relationship between Malta and the UK, highlighting the countries' shared history and future collaboration.
As part of the presentation, Prof. Montefort gifted the King with two remarkable paintings by Maltese artist Frank Schembri. One artwork portrays a young King Charles with his uncle, Lord Mountbatten, in the Grand Harbour circa 1954. The other commemorates the 2015 visit of Their Majesties to Mdina.
