‘Jellyfish the size of PIZZAS’- Malta records its largest fried egg jellyfish bloom for the year 2023
They are completely harmless.

Maltese biologist, Alan Deidun confirms that this year’s fried egg jellyfish bloom was the largest on record for Malta.

“Jellyfish the size of PIZZAS”, he captioned a series of photos on social media showing some extremely large fried egg jellyfish. The shots were taken by Audrey Zammit near the south and west coast of Malta.

He stated that some of the jellyfish even reached a 30cm high diameter!

Thankfully, the fried egg jellyfish are innocuous and completely harmless.

In fact, if you’ve went swimming in Malta at any point during the past week, chances are you came across many of these jellyfish.

They are a common occurrence every year but no where near the impressive number that swimmers have seen this year.

Will we perhaps see this again next year?
