This time of the year brings with it carob season across Malta and Gozo but did you know the different ways in which you can harvest and make use of the fruit carob trees give us?

Tal-Harrub trees, as they are known in Maltese are a “super food packed with a long list of virtues”, the Maltese based chef Pietro expressed.

In fact, many people in Malta make used of this season to produce carob syrup otherwise known as gulepp and it’s absolutely delicious!

It can also be made into pudding and spreadable cream. It is truly perfect addition to many Mediterranean dishes and cuisines.

The tree itself helps with Malta’s Mediterranean ecosystem as it heavily enriches the soil and provides shelter for the many animals sharing its habitat.

Have you ever harvested fruit from a carob tree?
