Renowned Malta-based nature photographer Johan Siggesson has started 2025 with a major achievement, winning Gold in the Nature/Wildlife category at the Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA).

His breathtaking image, ‘At The Foot of The Mountain,’ featuring a herd of elephants in Kenya, also secured 2nd place in the overall Nature category, further cementing his status as a leading figure in wildlife photography.

Mr Siggesson’s work is known for its ability to capture the raw beauty of wildlife while raising awareness about conservation efforts. His latest accolade at TIFA adds to an already impressive list of international recognitions.

Sharing the news on LinkedIn, he expressed gratitude for the continued acknowledgment of his work, writing that he's 'Grateful that my work continues to receive recognition around the world.'

Speaking to WhosWho.mt, Mr Siggesson says he came to Malta 'for love' 22 years ago - his wife is Maltese.

After years living in Gżira, he now lives with his wife and two children in Żurrieq: 'A very different place!'

The Tokyo International Foto Awards celebrate the world’s most compelling photography, recognising artists whose work pushes creative boundaries. Mr Siggesson’s image stood out for its composition, emotional depth, and ability to tell a powerful story about nature’s majesty and fragility.

This win reinforces Mr Siggesson’s impact in the world of nature and wildlife photography. By capturing wildlife in its purest form, he continues to spark important conversations on environmental protection.

As his reputation grows, each award he receives makes his photography and his fine art prints more than just art - it’s a call to action.

With another milestone achieved, Johan Siggesson remains a leading voice in wildlife photography, using his lens to inspire change and protect the natural world.

Congratulations, Johan Siggesson!
