Impressive! Maltese 11-year-old builds record-breaking mechanised ground firework display
Malta’s village feasts continue to inspire new generations to carry on this cherished tradition

Francesca Vella

The art of creating ground fireworks is certainly not dead, as demonstrated by a young enthusiast who has broken the national record by constructing the largest mechanised ground firework display, made entirely from coloured building blocks!

Luigi Vella, 11 years old and hailing from Naxxar, used 384 blocks to build an impressive 11 displays, all of which are entirely functional in their rotational motion. He drew his inspiration from the ground firework displays traditionally on show at Malta’s village feasts, which he apparently attends with great enthusiasm.

It's heartwarming to see such creativity brought to life in children by Maltese traditions - hopefully this could be encouraged for several other local crafts to keep them alive too!

Well done Luigi!
