Impressive! 13-year-old Neil Cassar becomes the youngest to cycle 127km around Malta in just 5 hours
Young cyclist Neil Cassar wrapped up 2024 in an unforgettable way, setting a remarkable record during the Puttinu Cares marathon held yesterday in memory of Jake Vella. After weeks of training, Neil became the youngest cyclist ever to complete the 127-kilometre circuit around Malta in just five hours.
Starting from Msida Church, Neil led a group of 100 cyclists participating in the event, leaving them in awe with his impressive speed and determination.
His incredible performance caught the attention of his head coach, renowned endurance athlete Fabio Spiteri, who predicted he’d need to slow Neil down in order to keep the group together – a testament to the young cyclist’s pace and stamina. Neil's dedication to his preparation for the event was evident, training six times a week.
Earlier this year, Neil was the youngest to cycle 100km around Malta, with the route avoiding the more challenging hilly terrain in the north of the island, but this time he travelled the entire circumference, making this feat even more impressive.
